A Guide to Photographing Your Newborn

Are you planning a portrait photo session? If so, you will certainly want to be prepared!

I believe that your portraits should be personalized to you and your life! That’s why, here at Sarah Keenan Creative, I have put together a few tips to assist you with preparing for your own portrait photo session. I’m so excited to share these tips with you, so be sure to continue reading to discover what they are:

  • A Great Sense of Style. The outfit you choose to adorn yourself with for your portrait photo session will actually be a key detail highlighted throughout your images. Consider choosing clothing that isn’t too busy, but still complements your unique style. You will want to avoid clothing that presents logos and flashy designs, as you won’t want your ensemble to be the focus of your photos (you should be the focus!). In addition, bring along more than one outfit, as it will provide a sense of variety for your images. Also, a professional stylist is a highly recommended investment for your photo session, so that you can flaunt some stunning hair and makeup.
  • Personalized Props. If you feel that your clothing and smile just don’t bring enough personality to your photos, you can incorporate some props! Not only will this give you a theme, but it can also communicate personal details and likes in your life. If you play an instrument, bring it along with you! Or, if you are celebrating a milestone within your life, pop open a bottle of bubbly and get the celebration started! It’s the little details that can add a great deal of personalization to your photos.
  • A Meaningful Location. Where you take your photos is just as important as capturing good photos. After all, who wants a blah backdrop for their images? (Not me!). Think of a setting that has little to no foot traffic, offers beautiful scenery, and is appropriate for the weather and time of day. In addition, you could choose a location that holds a special meaning in your life. For your family photos, consider a park that you like to frequent. Or, if you are celebrating an engagement, take your session to where you were proposed to. The opportunities are truly endless!
